Why I have always wanted to be different....

I wanted to be different. I wanted to stand out. I love the fact that I could be different.

I love the fact that I was not afraid to get up to dance and sing in public.

In fact, there were times when I was a kid and my cousin Sally and I planned these “elaborate” dance shows to perform in front of my house.

We used to do these dance routines songs by Madonna, Cyndi Lauper and Michael Jackson and many more.

Even going into junior high and high school, I always liked being part of the yearly talent show either singing, dancing and playing the piano, then in high school, being part of the lip singing contest, I never really tried out for this school play.

After high school I seemed to conform like a lot of young adults do.

Got a degree and then a job. That's probably the most common thing that we're all taught to do.

I didn't have kids. In fact, I got a divorce. I lived with a guy when that was looked down upon and, in my culture, my family did not approve unless we eventually married

And then I learned from my first marriage that I shouldn't have married him.

We go through this world trying to be like everyone else.

Now the reason I bring this up is that my dad, my dad has this talent.

My dad is a tailor. He used to make these beautiful outfits for me. When I was a kid, I always had these fancy dresses. And I was so proud of my dad that he was able to be so creative and then I was able to stand out even more.

I think for the longest time that my dad encouraged us kids to be special and different.

He showed us that he was special and different with his clothing creations.

I love my dad for giving me this ability to want to just be me.

It is my hope that you have the same influence in your household; I hope they allow you to be who you are.

I hope they allow your special gifts to come out right.

And I really encourage you to take them out and share them.
