The Difference Between Traditional and Servant Leadership

There's a difference between your regular traditional leadership, and servant leadership.

When you're in the humblest position, you do not just lead people, you are also serving them.

It's not about sitting in an office and expecting people to just work for you. Traditionally, many leaders feel they are entitled to this sort of set up.

Servant leadership is where you're growing with whoever you're leading.

Servant leaders are also always learning, and always seeking knowledge to become better leaders.

So, no, leaders do NOT know everything. Too many managers think that they need to know everything before they can lead, when really, it's probably more effective to people who follow you that you're growing with them. And of course, you're never going to be to a point where you reach your potential, you're never going to be at a point where you're probably going to be 100% at where you're supposed to be, because if you are at your ceiling for growth, and you're not continuing to grow, then you’re only dying.

I want to grow with a group of leaders who aspire to do something more with their life.

Another great influencer in the leadership space, Simon Sinek, says, “Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is about taking care of those in your charge.”

Taking care of others, or serving them, requires you to be always growing your mindset, staying openminded and personally developing.

Not everyone can drive, nor meet the need for true servant leadership, but there are a few in our midst.

The belief that they exist, and the support that we can develop them, is all we need to create space for true hope.
