Live your best life… you only have one
Mar 10, 2024
We all need to figure out what we want out of this life and go after it.
Let’s face it, no one is coming to give it to you. No one can tell you what will make you happy. Only you know what you want.
I still struggle with determining what I want. When I think about what I actually want, it seems so small, almost elementary.
I just want to be happy.
That’s it. I have never thought about what will make me happy, let alone, what currently makes me happy. But when I peel back the layers, I have also discovered that peace makes me happy.
True peace brings me happiness. I worried a lot as a kid, and I tend to worry a lot as an adult. I have had to work at it, because at the end of the day, a lot of the worry that I produce, is either a result of the past, or a non-existent future. I have had to work on being present, and therefore, happy in the present, without the thought of the past, nor future. Only I can control this.
The problem with this is it is a daily focus I need to recalibrate. I constantly need to check my thoughts, to see if the feeling I have is truly there, or a figment of what my mind has produced as a result of my past.
Too many times, I think that people in general, live with the mentality that we will live forever, we do not even stop to think about what truly makes us happy. And I think we convince ourselves that we are happy because, we are not sad. And sometimes, we even convince ourselves that just being content is ok too.
But what if you had the chance to be overjoyed, versus, being content? Wouldn’t most or all of us choose being overjoyed? Think back to when you were last elated that you just could not believe how awesome your life was? I am disappointed to say that I haven’t ever thought my life was so awesome in my past life. The reason for this, I have never stopped to think what actually made me truly happy.
Like so many people, I reacted to my life, instead of living my life.
There are so many things in the world that we can be thankful for. And it starts with something as small as recognizing that fact.
The next step is to write down the things you want and how it will make you feel after you achieve or obtain them. Truly think about what you would want, if today was your last day on earth.
And work backwards to make it happen.
It sounds easy, and it is easy to do. The hardest thing about doing this exercise, is truly feeling that it is all possible. And that feeling of possibility will lead to action. But it starts with knowing that you have 100% control of your life.
Once you realize that you can live your life with intention, you also have the power to inspire others to live a life they dream of as well.
