HELLO WORLD!!!!!!
Mar 10, 2024
Did you notice that as you became an “adult” you realized that even your parents had a lot to learn while you were kids?
Let me make this clear, our parents have a lot to teach us while we were growing up.
But, our parents have a lot to learn. But who is supposed to teach them?
For example, the dentist always knew more than our parents on how to properly take care of our teeth.
Or another example was the doctor will always knew how to diagnose and treat us way more effectively than our parents did when we got sick as kids.
I realized late in life, and only because I landed in the financial industry, that our parents are just as clueless when it comes to finances. Now I do not want to generalize, but unless our parents learned proactively from a professional, on the most part, our parents did not know much about finances, and our generation has suffered even more as a result.
This is not to sound pessimistic at all about the “economic state” of the world, because truly, I feel like it is “all relative” depending on who has the opinion in the first place.
So I am going to speak from the “average middle class” in North America. How does that sound?
I am hoping that my insight about how people see money, and how they react, respond, and overreact, to it, will not be offensive to anyone. And my intention is truly to educate and provide some financial information on basic concepts about how find financial independence in this day and age.
Back to my first insight as to why I think our parents have molded how we deal with money…..
It wasn’t until maybe my ninth year in my banking career, that I realized that my parents were not in the best financial position for their age at the time. I also realized that it was not their fault.
Whether they got ill-advised advice from friends or family, the banks have really failed them in their more than 25 years at the time, in Canada, and I had to play catch up for them.
This event really got me to realize that I wanted to be a different banker than the norm. I wanted to stand out from the rest, and really provide value. The awesome thing about this time in my life, was that I had the opportunity to pass along this new found inspiration down to my team.
I was already branch manager at the time. I had the ability to teach and coach my team to do the same. This was truly a great opportunity, I would say…...fate.
I created this venue to grow in my creativity to spread financial education, but also tell you my story, in hopes that my stories will inspire you to become your best version and become financially independent.
